Well, what's it gonna be?
Having Ryan Dempster come out and say what a great guy Milton Bradley is sure seems like a smooth pr move.
I like Ryan, Ryan likes Milton, therefore I should like Milton too.
Right?
I bet that's the next shoe to drop, and I also bet that makes the Cubs better.
But it's not enough for losing Mark DeRosa.
I cannot imagine the Cubs traded DeRo for just a salary dump.
I also cannot imagine the Cubs got all those dinky pitchers from Cleveland in return for DeRosa just to get some new dinky pitchers to have on the team.
And then there's moving Marquis to Denver or whatever, getting somebody from there.
Gaining some cash to throw around.
Now, I can read around and try to figure out all the money stuff and guess about when the Cubs will get a new owner, but I've only got a couple days of vacation left.
All I can say is something else, something better should still happen for the Cubs.
Lastly, some unrelated stuff.
Get to the theatre.
"Slumdog Millionaire" is everything everyone says it is, and "Gran Torino" is astonishing.
I saw the preview to "Torino" way back when we saw "Changeling", and honestly I laughed because it looks like Clint simply being a hundred year old ass-kicker.
But it might actually be about the best Clint (directed and/or acted) movie I've ever seen.
That guy's got depth and a gift for storytelling that puts him in a league beyond hardball.
Both these movies - everybody applauded at the end.
But none of that changes the fact that SOMETHING BETTER SHOULD STILL HAPPEN WITH THE CUBS.
And I'm not gonna just shut up and drink my beer about it.
