Well, it happened.
Step One.
On just a beautiful afternoon at Wrigley Field, the Cubs beat the Cards 5-4 to clinch the NL Central.
For the second year in a row.
No small feat there, but now it'll get serious.
I'm going to struggle to keep myself grounded in the moment rather than speculating and making myself insane (you couldn't help but notice that Tampa Bay, who swept the Cubs earlier, clinched yesterday also).
So, one game at a time.
And a day to savor here.
Terrible Ted did damage with both his arm and his bat going 7 innings (with a 4-run hiccup, but who's counting), and also his suicide squeeze in the 4th scoring DeRo.
He wins number 16, his personal best.
I'm thinking Ted Lilly has a bit of a chip on his shoulder all the way from the last time we saw him in '07 with the glove throwing thing, and my money will be on this guy in the playoffs.
There was all kindsa silly talk about what kind of celebration they'd have when they clinched.
My own personal life-mantra is: celebrate every single time you can.
I understand they just won a long battle, and there's a bigger goal in mind, but it was fantastic that they ran onto the field and sprayed fans with champagne.
And for today I'm just gonna chill.
I would imagine we'll see plenty of Triple A guys playing today, anyway.
So, relax.
If you comment here today, maybe write down your favorite memory from this season.
Carlos' no no.
The Soto Homer a couple days ago is right up there.
The Legendary Reed Johnson Catch...
My favorite story from this year is simply Kerry Wood throwing again.
Okay, Cubs Cards 1:20 Dempster vs. Looper last home game of the regular season.
Go Cubs.
