If it's the middle of baseball season, it's also the middle of barbecue season, and there's something a little wasteful about letting your coals just go to sleep after you've grilled a large ribeye or some dandy little hens.
Even if you come back to the grill an hour after you've eaten, there's always enough heat for a s'more...
You know what a s'more is, right?
A graham cracker sandwich with chocolate and roasted marshmallows in the middle.
(If you think that's only for kids, well then you're already too old.)
We just got back from a cabin vacation where we got a lot of practice at this s'more thing.
So much so that we had a s'more epiphany: what if you added bananas?
It's a sin, right?
You're not allowed to mess with something so simple and perfect.
Wrong.
It's only one more ingredient, and that ingredient is not only tasty, but also puts the s'more in the "healthy" category.
Argue all you want about how well done the marshmallow should be, but I like it burnt with a black crust because that has the added benefit of me getting to set something on fire!
Then, just put some ripe banana slices in there.
Impossible how good that is.
Save it for a night game with the radio in the back yard.
It's a fabulous thing to do during the 7th inning stretch.
Speaking of which, why Dusty Baker and his band of Redlegs have come from Cincinnati with pitcher Aaron Harang, and Dusty wants Aaron to throw better than our newly named National League All-Star Ryan Dempster.
(Aaron's only 3-10, but he's really pretty good.)
So come on Cubs, gimme a sweet victory and I'll make it sweeter with a healthy s'more.
ps: About this CC Sabathia going to the Brewers thing... a little disturbing.
Right now the Brewers have won 4 of 6 vs. the Cubs, all at Wrigley.
There are 10 more games against them with only 3 at Wrigley, and 6 of those games come right at the end of the season.
In fact, Sep 26-28 is the last series of the season, and it'll be in Milwaukee.
Wow, that could be some kind of finish.
