Of course, the trade didn't involve Mark DeRosa directly, but he'd have been switched to the utility guy.
He'd be Cedeno, and Roberts would be at 2nd.
There would be no 3 wins from Gallagher the stud rookie.
There would be no hope for the lanky lefty Marshall to heal and maybe come up and spell a certain struggling ex-Cardinal who's walking people at an alarming rate.
And perhaps even a .333 hitting, .425 slugging red headed outfielder in the minors would be doing that for the major league team in Baltimore.
I'm not the guy you ask about stats, but if you just compare the basics this year so far...
Mark Derosa is hitting .295 with 7 home runs, 13 doubles, 31 RBIs, and 3 stolen bases while Mr. Roberts is hitting .281 with 4 homers, 16 doubles, 21 RBIs, and 17 stolen bases.
Dude, I wouldn't trade these guys straight up.
We've all seen "It's a Wonderful Life", right?
You saw what happened in poor little Bedford Falls with just one guy (Jimmy Stewart) missing.
It all went to hell, and I won't even mention the emotional effect it had on me.
Think if potentially 5 (FIVE!) Cubs were...not where they should be.
Even Ronny Cedeno, impossibly, seems to have found himself.
Should one of the infielders go down for a spell, I have total confidence that Ronny would be a bonus out there.
Olson came in my office the other day and brought this whole thing up.
Made me crazy.
I...just shudder to think what it would be like if that trade had happened.
It would be COMPLETELY different.
Okay, it's 11:30.
The Cubs are beating the Dodgers 4-3, but I have to SLEEP.
Lets hope that the sports page will bring us a gift in the morning.
Go Cubs.
ps: Every time I've watched "It's a Wonderful Life" I've cried. Sometimes making noise. The only other movie that has that power over me is "Brian's Song".
Anybody got a problem with that lets step outside.
I'll have Flynn kick your ass.
