This painting is from May 27th, on a houseboat called “The Desert Gold” in Friendship Cove on Lake Powell in Utah.
I’d taken the kids tubing, done this painting, and taken the kids fishing, all the while listening on and off to the Cubs/Dodgers game on the houseboat’s XM Radio.
When we got back from the afternoon fishing, I couldn’t believe the game was still on.
“The bases are loaded with Dodgers, nobody out. They’re about to lose.” said Dad.
I grabbed a Bud and sat down to listen.
Marmol immediately hits Pierre and forces in the winning run.
Dodgers 2, Cubs 1, fist on table, spilled beer, almost a ruined sunset.
We turned off the XM, and didn’t turn it on again the whole trip.
When we got back to Prescott, we found out the Cubs had just been swept by Florida at home.
This season isn’t supposed to wreck all my fun.
I’m sure they’re saying that in Houston (0 for their last 10, woo hoo!) and St. Louis too.
As awful as it’s been, the Cubs are only 6 games behind the Brewers (who’ve come back to earth at 29-24).
There are 4 months left in this 2007 season, Baseball Fans.
As Mick Jagger said, “Time is on my side.”
Wait…he’s still alive, right?
