Like a complete boob, I missed the first two.
Out back, grilling salmon, Friday night, martini, all that.
DOH!
The game!
Turned on the radio, Ron and Pat are telling me Soriano’s up for the third time, and then the story of the first two homers.
Suddenly Pat: “HE DID IT AGAIN!”
Wow.
3 homers in a row.
I guess we’re supposed to expect amazing things from Alfonso, but that’s mondo-amazing.
And Sean Marshall.
Who expected that guy to come back and be such an alpha dog?
Worship to you, Mr. Marshall.
Okay, Cubs beat the Braves 9-1, they’ve won 5 of their last 6 while outscoring opponents 41-12.
They’re pretty hot, these Cubs, and we should all feel really good about this.
As Homer Simpson says, “Mmmm…beer.”
Come to think of it, Steve Flynn says that too.

A Poem By Felix Pie (PEE-ay)

This poem wasn't actually written by Felix, but...inspired by him.
(And no, I wasn't HEE-ay.)
In honor of Felix's recent excellent performance, I've decided to (like his name) pronounce everything with the "EEE-ay" sound (instead of "i").
PEE-ay, in his last 4 games, has: 8 hits, 6 runs, a homer, 2 doubles, 4 RBIs, and a stolen base.
That's no LEE-ay.
And probably more than what most expected from him, bat-wise.
Hope he keeps it up against the Braves 'cause man, that's just fun to watch.

Back to the fight thing, I like what Jerome Holtzman said (taken from this morning's TRIB):
"The guys who fight each other always become best friends afterward," Holtzman said. "They respect each other more. The Cubs should pair off all the players in twos and get them all to fight each other and charge admission. Every fight I've ever seen brings a team together. It shows they care."
Then of course I read about the hugging and crying and well, glad that that at least was behind closed clubhouse doors.

Big Swede, how much do you and your Brewers owe me so far this year?

Imagine Catching Big "Z" Today...

Poor Koyie Hill.
He better be perfect today.
Or else it's "SMACKDOWN WITH CARLOS!", right on television.
What a nightmare, to have that in the back of your mind as a young catcher.
Not that Carlos will repeat his boxing performance, but you've just got to be thinking that any little mistake can completely de-rail the "ace".
Add to that the pressure to win this game.
Because they have to.

Too bad about Ted Lilly last night, but at the end of the game I still had a little hope.
A little hope...
That's more than I can say about last week.

DeRosa's Grand Slam

That was a nice first inning, and a nice game too.
Of course, it was against Lance Cormier, pitching for the first time in 2007 (for a slightly injured John Smoltz).
Lance had just come off the dl after rehabbing his arm for the first two months of the season.
But, who cares?
Good for the Cubs!
Good for Sean Marshall and his 1st win of 2007. Good for Derrek Lee and Alfonso Soriano and their homers. Good for Mark DeRosa and his Grand Salami. Good for young Felix Pie coming back up and getting a couple hits.
And good for me and you, too.
Lets take the good where we can, and maybe the bats'll keep it up against the Brewers.

Werewolf Of Wrigley

Finally.
Werewolf-Lou makes an appearance.
Angel Pagan tries to take third on an almost-wild pitch, but gets called out and Lou doesn't like it.
Entertainment ensues.
The fact that this makes me happy also makes me feel twelve, but there you go.
Still doesn’t change the horror movie we’re watching with the Cubs.
I think we're all pretty aware of managers getting in the spotlight to get their players out of it.
Carlos and Michael's hanky panky, the sun in Theriot's eyes and the hole in Murton's glove - trust me, I'm glad for the distraction.
Now, how about the bats turning monster for a change?
