I've been flat on my back for a week with an evil winter illness, but I've been reading the sports and trying to make sense out of it while knocking back antibiotics and pretty much the whole cold remedy aisle at Walgreens.
It sounds like Lou wants to at least start the season with an extra pitcher, and have only one back-up infielder.
That would be Ryan Theriot, meaning last year's starting SS, Ronny Cedeno, wouldn't even make this year's club (Dusty, 2006 REALLY wasn't your year).
In the outfield we have Matt Murton and Cliff Floyd splitting left field, Soriano in center, and Jacque Jones in right.
But I also read that Pie is hitting around .400 this Spring (yeah, I know - Spring), and if you believe the hype he's The Raw God in center field.
So if he makes the team, then what?
And of course there's the drama over who will be the 5th starter - Wade Miller or Mark Prior?
I love all this talk and concern in Spring training, but seriously...
I've learned from Derrek Lee's wrist and the private part of Michael Barrett that rhymes with "wrote 'em" that there will be injuries in 2007.
And all these guys'll play.
